The Shorts Competition is a selection of documentaries from all around the world, each under 45 minutes. Thanks to their diverse subject matter, they constitute an ideal starting point from which to explore the issues addressed in the feature-length films presented at the festival.

A former military barracks of the Wehrmacht now serves as a refugee camp for people from Ukraine. "Waking up in silence" accompanies the children on their journey, where their own history meets that of the barracks. A moment between past and future, war and silence, departure, and arrival, which depicts a portrait of German history and its present through the eyes of its young protagonists.

But when she digitises his archive, she discovers that the recordings are not only of bears. A discussion ensues about the power of a gaze and its voyeuristic violence.

Surprised by the unexpected pregnancy, the couple decides to capture this peculiar time in their lives on film. The mobile phone they pass from one to another witnesses their everyday life and instigates questions and doubts. She experiences extreme emotions that should better be hidden than revealed. He consequently renovates the flat and feels that there is no room for his weakness. However, they try to hold hands. Everyday life exposes the dynamics of a couple who have to get to know each other once again.
