A former military barracks of the Wehrmacht now serves as a refugee camp for people from Ukraine. "Waking up in silence" accompanies the children on their journey, where their own history meets that of the barracks. A moment between past and future, war and silence, departure, and arrival, which depicts a portrait of German history and its present through the eyes of its young protagonists.

The mobile phone they pass from one to another witnesses their everyday life and instigates questions and doubts. She experiences extreme emotions that should better be hidden than revealed. He consequently renovates the flat and feels that there is no room for his weakness. However, they try to hold hands. Everyday life exposes the dynamics of a couple who have to get to know each other once again.
